COVID Conversations on Mental Health: Leow Yangfa on Trauma, Loss, and Grief

Leow Yangfa, a registered social worker in Singapore, had this to say on dealing with the suddenness of COVID-19: “What is happening now is not normal. Trauma, loss, and grief often go hand in hand together. Loss is an emotional experience. Perhaps, it will take time for us to make meaning of the losses and the grief we are experiencing.”

In the same online conversation hosted by Innovation for Change – East Asia, Vizla Kumaresan also warned about burnout and how people are having to imagine new ways of life with very little information to go on. She said we presently have a lot of questions and we have to be okay not knowing the answers, “recognizing that from not knowing, new things can sprout.”
