Kawan+Gawa Spotlight Sessions

Kawan+Gawa invites you to be part of the Spotlight Sessions this weekend! Come and join the sharing from three wonderful organizations from Malaysia and the Philippines.

Through Kawan+Gawa, the aim is to shine a light on the individuals, companies, and collectives in the regional arts community whose work expands the possibilities of civic space by creating opportunities for freedom of expression, and offering alternative ways of living and working together.

Our Collaborators:
Anino Shadowplay Collective
Join us as we discover and experience the basics of Shadowplay. Learn how to manipulate light and create basic puppets and how can we use them to shine a light on our stories and advocacies using shadows.

A Kuala Lumpur-based arts community will share how to bake their famous KongKong bread while sharing their process of care within their space and community. Don’t worry, no baking experience required! Just a morning of sharing and care with members of KongsiKL.

PUP Sining-Lahi Polyrepertory (June 19 3pm-5pm)
An interactive performance from the university-based theater group that highlights their experiences, struggles, and triumphs as young people.

Kawan+Gawa is an initiative under StickyRiceKaravan, a collective formed in 2021 by a group of artists and cultural workers based in the Philippines and Malaysia, brought together by Innovation for Change – East Asia.
