Reading Challenge in Solidarity with Jolovan Wham

The Read in Solidarity Book Club put together this 22-day reading challenge as a form of our solidarity with Jolovan Wham who has been sentenced by the Singapore government to a 22-day jail term.

Jolovan was imprisoned for what was deemed an act of organizing an illegal public assembly in an MRT train in 2017. Remember him and a few other people reading a book while on board a train?

“Since Jolovan’s convictions are for acts of civil disobedience (involving reading!), we believe it would be enriching and symbolic to spend this time deepening our understanding of civil disobedience and clarifying our perspectives and critiques on its role in our society.”
